ASSEMBLY: ProescenThe VIP lounges of ARCO offered two unique experimental opportunities to activate a space beyond its program. For the 2009 edition the system has been inverted so that multiple membranes act as independent objects making the spatial context coincide with the programmatic. The screens of 2009 are modular objects that mark the neutral space in which they float, being main actors in a cast of construction elements that suggest a “work in progress” scheme of deliberately low tech technology that fits into a container of recycled materials. Both editions coincide in the simplicity and accessibility of its base materials and their structural optimization, thus converting the cardboard tubes, an originally weak material, into systems with both esthetical and functional qualities.
