The massive volume that needs to be added to the existing building will determine the new image of the Museum at the risk of losing the original composition. Filling the courtyard between the Eastman wings with architecture and stacking a contemporary-yet-not-competitive volume over the original building enable the clear perception of the shape and proportions of the original building, now turned into a container of the complementary programme. The new volume hosts the exhibition spaces, avoiding any hindrance derived from the historical condition, except for the necessary moderation in terms of volume, texture and capacity for dialogue. The need to merge into a single organization while separating the perception of both buildings, gives a new value to the original roofs now transformed in a slice of free space between the past and the future.
