ARCO Art Fair ’08, ’09
Madrid, Spain. 2008-2009
First Prize. Competition by Invitation. Area: 30.000m2CLIENT: IFEMA
PROJECT ARCHITECT: Ángela Ruíz
PROJECT TEAM: Luis Berríos-Negrón, Roberta Sartori, Paula VegaThe installation is looking to maximize the visibility of the exhibitors and comfort and easy circulation for visitors. To achieve this numerous ample corridors without evident hierarchies are laid out and bent. They expand and contract provoking an optimized distribution of galleries that offers obvious improvements as in visibility and exhibition possibilities. Its isotropy is only being broken in the main plaza that holds the Market (stands of publishers and magazines), the Assembly (forum), the Theatre (performances) and the Gallery of Wonders (expanded box). Therefore, and with a latent structure of subjective perception as well as singular and carefully designed elements, a characteristic personality of the ARCO exhibition space is being achieved. With the unfolded system a majority of stands has a longer show front than depth or the sought after corner situation. The corridors work as a sequence of little squares that spare the visitor from endless corridors with claustrophobic widths and provide a richness of views and crossed perceptions.
