ESTUDIO GORDILLO
The brief has been solved with a volume half buried in parallel to the site boundary facing the street. The main studio space stretches over two thirds of the main floor leaving the rest to a two storey part where printing studio, office and services are located on the upper and archive/magazine on the lower level. The roof is a projection of the existing garden level leaving just two north-south-oriented skylights visible illuminating the artist’s studio. The presence of the studio is minimized by the use of only two materials: translucent polycarbonate used as watertight cladding for the continuous concrete walls and xerophilous plants on the roof garden creating an image of lightness towards the exterior. This is contrasting with the opaqueness of the walls on the inside which only is illuminated by the two skylights and the light entering through the access doors satisfying not only the requirements of the workspace but also creating a pleasant atmosphere – sober and sensual at a time.
