Seoul Evergreen Terrace
The city of Seoul intends to close down the elevated motorway which for the last 40 years has linked the Historic City Centre to the west urban developments over the Central Railway Station and turn the problem of its functional obsolescence into the spur of a new way to use and discover the city. In order to achieve the transformation of the infrastructure in a “collective space of individual use”, we have divided the stretches of the viaduct into AREAS –Playing Area, Living Area, Reading Area, Dining Area and Gate Area- generating independent units within the project which are sown by the viaduct. Our second premise implies avoiding as much as possible any alteration on the existing infrastructure. Subsequently, the optimal vegetation implemented in its refurbishment is planted in the ground, where a selection of species of all sizes and volumes will grow freely, qualifying not only the viaduct but also the surrounding urban fabric into a selection of setups which we have named LANDSCAPES. A collection of punctual interventions named STATIONS furnish the project with different “domestic” programs.
