Building a “classical” market nowadays in a suburban context seemed to us as a unique opportunity to introduce a strong dose of urban culture not free of social function and support for small business right where they seem to be eradicated. The market is conceived as the vital core of the neighbourhood offering a friendly presence valorizing the proximity of local amenities. To achieve this, a continuous geometry has been chosen that generates an ambiguous space between square and walkway around its perimeter. By receiving the stimulation of the adjacent park it converts itself into a building surrounded by a public space. The fresh market is situated on ground floor level, the big supermarket on the first basement level and shops and gym, nursery and restaurant on the top floor. The whole complex renounces to define itself and uses a sculptural mechanism in order to appear in the park as a topographic accident with a colourful appearance and an intriguing form with a strong artificial content inviting to be discovered and to be used intensively.
